Bianca's front yard on Camp Craft Road in West Lake Hills slopes toward the street, and a solid fence would not meet the 80% visibility rule for front yards. We set ornamental tube steel panels in black powder coat, racked them with the grade and held the line back from the pavement with native planting in front. The 180 lf of 5 ft panels was an estimated $11,200 to $14,800 and took an estimated 2 to 4 days. The fence stays secure and stays see-through from the street.

Why Cedar Park Fences Are Reaching Replacement Now

Most Cedar Park fences are first generation and are reaching their first replacement now, because the city grew from 26,049 people in 2000 to 77,595 in 2020. Homes built on tract lots in those years got wood fences with posts about 20 years old, and those posts rot at the soil line first. Buttercup Creek, Twin Creeks and Ranch at Brushy Creek lots are where we see the most first replacements, and Crystal Falls and Travisso in Leander are close behind. Iron replaces the whole line with posts that last, and an owner who plans the swap can keep the same property line and the same gate openings.

Front yard height limits apply in Cedar Park, so confirm current text with the city before ordering a tall front run. Back and side runs are the usual place to go taller.

The Process for Setting Iron Posts in Limestone

Iron posts in the hills west of Cedar Park fight limestone, and the footing depth is the part of the job that changes most from lot to lot. Our standard is a 36-inch minimum depth for fence posts and 48-inch for gate posts, and where a ledge stops the auger we bring a rock bit and drill through it rather than shorten the hole.

  • Probe first: we push a bar along the fence line at the site visit to find ledges before the quote is written.
  • Rock cost: shallow limestone adds drilling time, so a ledge lot in Volente can run longer than a Buttercup Creek tract lot.
  • Gate posts: the posts beside any opening go deepest, because the leaf swings from them every day, as on Jerome's Andice Road acreage in Georgetown.
  • Concrete: each post is set in poured concrete and checked plumb before the panels go on.

What Every Iron Fence Includes

Frame steel
14-gauge tube pickets on 11-gauge rails and 3/16-inch wall posts, sized to the run rather than to a catalog.
Picket spacing
We hold no more than 4 inches between pickets on any fence a child can reach.
Footings
36-inch minimum depth for fence posts and 48-inch for gate posts, with rock bits used wherever limestone stops the auger.
Slope handling
Pickets racked to follow the grade up to the panel limit, then stepped in sections.
Finish system
Sandblast, zinc-rich primer and a polyester powder coat baked at the coater, never field paint on new steel.
Top detail
Flat-top rail, spear or finial, chosen against the local code and how the fence sits near deer paths.
Ground clearance
Bottom rail set a few inches above grade so mowers clear it and water does not pool.
Workmanship
An 18-month warranty on welds, footings and gate travel.

Wrought Iron Fence Cost in Cedar Park

Prefabricated wrought iron fencing is estimated at $52 to $83 per linear foot for prefabricated tube steel panels, and the footing depth, the slope and the number of gates move that number most. Hand-forged scroll work sits higher in the table below.

A typical 180 lf perimeter of tube steel panels lands inside the estimated per-foot range and typically takes 2 to 4 days, while a short side yard run is often done in a day or two. These fence figures are estimates, and the footing depth, the slope and the gate count can change them; the written quote fixes the final price and the schedule once the line is walked.

Tube Steel, Aluminum or Hand-Forged Iron

Tube steel is the best value for a long perimeter, aluminum is the pick around a pool, and hand-forged iron is the pick for a front run that should look custom. The table sets the estimated installed price next to the upkeep for each.

Racking Iron Panels Down a Slope

Panels follow a slope by racking, and a run that falls more than the panel limit steps down in level sections instead. Racked panels keep the top line smooth and the bottom gap even, which matters on the long grades of Steiner Ranch and the ridge lots west of town. Stepped sections leave a triangular gap under each step, so we close those gaps with a short filler panel when a dog needs containing.

Lakeway has banned new spiked and open-picket fence tops since 2019 and asks for a continuous flat top, so a Lakeway run is built with a flat rail. Confirm current text with the city. West Lake Hills limits fences to 6 ft and asks for a 20 ft setback from pavement on lots under 0.75 acre, 30 ft on larger ones, so a West Lake Hills order starts with a code read. Rollingwood restricts front yard fences and asks for a permit on side and back runs, so confirm current text there as well.

Fence Materials and Related Options

Steel is the standard iron fence material, and our steel gate and fence material comparison explains galvanizing and powder coat. For a front run with scrolls and ornament, hand-forged wrought iron work is the next step up.

Why Owners Hire Our Crew for Iron Fencing

We string the line, drill the footings and weld the panels ourselves, so the crew that probes your soil is the crew that sets your posts. After 17 years and over 1,483 projects, the 18-month workmanship warranty has covered welds, footings and gate travel on every fence we have built. Maren's 90 lf run in Blackhawk got footings set for clay that shrinks and swells, and Bianca's 180 lf on Camp Craft Road was racked with the grade.

Iron Fence Service Areas

We build iron fencing across a 40-mile radius, with fence lines in West Lake Hills, Round Rock and Lakeway, and the other towns we cover are listed on the service area page. Mason Hills and Crystal Falls lots in Leander are the easiest ground and usually finish fastest. Lake Austin side and Quinlan Park Road side lots in Steiner Ranch add slope, and a metal fence is one more reason to choose iron there, since the 2011 Labor Day fire that destroyed 23 homes spread through wood fences and landscaping. Rough Hollow and Lohmans Crossing side lots in Lakeway need the flat top rail, and Flintrock Falls and Hills of Lakeway lots in The Hills need association approval first. Old Town and Wolf Ranch fence lines in Georgetown are mostly tract-lot runs, while Forest Creek and Chisholm Trail Road lots in Round Rock often have the older 1980s fences. Brodie Lane side and Slaughter Creek side lots in Shady Hollow depend on whether the lot is inside Austin. Shirin's 60 lf of 1970s iron on Westlake Drive was blasted, repaired by hand at two scrolls, zinc primed and recoated. Felicia's square-bar guard in Old Town in Georgetown came from the same iron work, at an estimated $2,500 to $3,700. Stuart's 96 lf barrier in Twin Creeks is the aluminum option when a pool sets the rule.

Related Fencing Services

An iron fence usually pairs with a driveway gate that matches it, a pool safety fence around the water, or security fencing where a taller line is needed.

How the Work Gets From Our Shop to Your Property

  1. Site measure

An estimator walks the opening, reads the grade and marks where the leaf or the slide run has to clear.

  2. Drawings and approval

Steel gets cut only after you sign off on a scaled drawing that names the tube, the coating and the opener.

  3. Shop fabrication

Our Cedar Park welders build it, the steel goes for galvanizing and powder coat, and it ships finished.

  4. Install and safety test

Posts cure, the leaf goes up, the opener gets wired, and you watch each photo eye and edge stop the gate.
